Just finished my tax returns for last year. My tax bill went up - a lot. Biggest reason was elimination of standard exemption of $8,000 (just me & the wife now) but capping taxes at $10,000 hurt a little as I was over $11,000 last year. My total deductions didn't change as I was over $24,000 last year and this year so the increase in the standard deduction didn't do anything for me. Total amount of the tax bill was about what I thought it was going to be but I didn't raise my withholdings as I was hoping I was calculating incorrectly. Need to visit payroll department today to raise that and I guess I get to cut a check this April. If there is a tax increase on everyone I wouldn't care as much but it really sucks knowing that if I had another 0 on the back of my paycheck I would probably be paying less than last year, not more.Comment
