Nick Markakis, 2065, jeez. He has an outside shot at 3000. Cano, Miggy & Pujols are locks.

yeah, Markakis has a 110 career OPS+, which for a corner OF is barely meh

but he's in the top 250 all-time in career hits - and with 150 more hits, would move up about 75 spots and pass Joe DiMaggio (3 yrs lost re WW II, retired at age 36, etc)

Contract year baby...only partially kidding. That 8 year, 184 million dollar albatross is finally coming to an end, and the local Mauer Honks are already starting up how much and how long his next contract should be. Personally, I think that 3 years for 15 million would be about right, but that'll never happen. But I wouldn't pay a penny more for a powerless, speedless 1st baseman when they've got a couple in the system that DO have power. Brent Rooker comes to mind...

Hopefully try to keep mauer a life time Twin, you re-sign him. But in this market, with his skill set, how does he get $15,000,000? Maybe 5 years but then you block youngsters. Even for a 3 year deal, you are probably blocking someone. I don't know but I hope he has an mlb job in 2019.

Yeah, I don't know how a guy with his skill set lands a multi-year deal in the current market place, but I like Mauer and hope he gets to play in Minny awhile longer. He was the only catching prospect I've ever had that really actually panned out. He was great for awhile there.

Markakis is still playing, and high on this list, because he can hit. And has a good eye. No defense (he's crappy as a corner OF), no speed, minimal power. But he is a professional hitter. Gotta give him that. He does one thing, and does it well. Once his contract expires at the end of this year, he'll be a MLB minimum pinch-hitter (hey, he can hit), but these things happen.
