  • Holland came in in the 8th in a 7-3 game, walk, popup, single, single/run, walk, pulled with one out and the bases loaded and a run in. Norris came in and let one score on a wild pitch but got out of it and had a clean ninth. Looking like Holland is going to be the worst FAAB purchase of the season.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I guess you can call anything silly if you'd like... he retired the one batter he faced and they won the game. The only complaints I've heard are fantasy related.

I know hyperbole, but if you've been watching baseball long enough you've seen numerous games flip after being ahead by multiple runs with just 1 out to get. As a Rangers' fan, the 2011 WS painfully comes to mind.

Nor does it make it a dumb one. I've yet to hear how this failed? You are adamant that it was not a smart decision and it is silly to say it worked, so what did it hurt exactly outside of your fantasy team?

Or maybe bring him in with a solid lead with just 1 out to go and build his confidence since, you know the revived corpse of Brad Lidge could do it and all.

Or again that he hadn't pitched in 5 days and needed work but they preferred building his confidence back up over throwing him completely into the fire.

      • It just reeks of overmanaging. No matter how many pitches these guys throw or how many outs they get, just the act of warming up to go in a game is taxing on the arm. Sure, Neris hadn't pitched in 5 days but what if they have a string of close games and he has to sit one of them out because he's already thrown 3 days in a row?

        • I mean, the counter would be that he comes into a game tomorrow for a key save and he's "rusty" because he hadn't pitched for 6 days.
          Can't win for losing.

Plus, you would have to kill Brad Lidge first to do it, and that seems pretty extreme just to make a point

I guess bringing him back from the dead isn't an issue ?

                  • Is it time to consider dumping Holland in a deep bench mixed 12 teamer and grabbing someone like
                    Minter
                    Bedrosian
                    Madson
                    Kelly
                    Jones
                    Casilla

or still hang in there with the potential closing upside?

I'd hang in there with Holland...none of the guys you list have a clear path to saves at this point.

                        • Gabe Kapler, Mind Effer...

According to the Phillies' official website, "Edubray Ramos looked unhittable in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday afternoon at Camden Yards. Then he got the hook. Ramos struck out Jonathan Schoop swinging on three pitches and Mark Trumbo swinging on three pitches in a 4-1 victory over the Orioles. Phillies manager Gabe Kapler then called for Hector Neris to face the left-handed-hitting Chris Davis, who grounded out to end the game. The mid-inning pitching change warranted an explanation. Kapler removed Neris from the full-time closer's role Sunday in a 4-2 victory over the Mets, saying he planned to use his relievers based on matchups and situations. But pulling Ramos after being so dominant? Could Kapler be playing with fire there? "I actually think it's just the opposite," said Kapler, who likes how Neris' splitter plays against lefties. "I think we're playing what we believe is most likely to happen. "Let's be very clear. I just want to be clear about one thing: This is about the talent of the players. Once we've established the talent of the players, we want to really know what that talent looks like. So we know that Ramos' slider is very effective against right-handed hitters. It's been true for over a year. So we give him that opportunity. That creates that confidence. He's going to walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. "Guess who else is going to feel like a million bucks? Hector Neris. He just got a huge out for us. It's not always going to work out like this. But this is what we believe, putting our pitchers in the best positions to have success."

                            • Hunter got the 7th for Phillies, who were down 6-5
they took lead in top of the 8th, 7-6 so here comes Seranthony Dominguez with a clean inning (17 batters up, 17 batters down in Seranthony's MLB career)....

make it 20 for 20 as he gets all 3 outs in the 9th, whiffing Pham for the 2nd one!
