I'm sitting in my backyard and a beautiful Chicago summer night, after a rough day at the office. I'm decompressing by watching my nine-month old Shepard Black Lab mix try to bury a rawhide bone. Her name is Lina. She keeps looking at me when she's about to hide it and whenever we make eye contact she moves somewhere else in the yard as if I'm her competition. She's a rescue pup with a Tetralogy of Fallot heart condition. She won't live terribly long, maybe 3 to 5 years, but for a dog with a broken heart, she has sure fixed mine. We lost our 8 yr old Golden Retreiver last November suddenly to an undiagnosed heart condition. She has helped us get over that loss and it just felt right to give her a chance at a happy life. And, while certainly not wealthy, we have the financial means to keep her comfortable. Such a sweet heart. Thank God for pets, they truly can change your mood!
