Wow! This is a huge surprise.

"Falcons fired defensive coordinator Richard Smith and defensive line coach Bryan Cox.
Even after Atlanta's Super Bowl meltdown, the moves are very surprising. Smith's young defense improved steadily over the course of 2016, while Cox's defensive line harassed Tom Brady relentlessly on Sunday before running out of gas on a whopping 93 defensive snaps, not including six penalties. Dan Quinn presumably had misgivings about both before the Super Bowl, because Smith and Cox's units played about as well as could have been hoped. With Kyle Shanahan gone to San Francisco, the Falcons will have two new coordinators in 2017."

Heard on the radio this morning that Quinn had been calling the defense since midway through the year. While it was a surprise when I first heard these guys were fired after hearing that Quinn was calling the defense it made more sense. Smith and Cox were probably gone after the last game of the season, regardless of when that game occurred.

Rumor has it that Jon Gruden will replace Del Rio as the Raiders head coach. Gruden was previously head coach of the Raiders from 1998-2001 (38-26 with 2 division titles) and the Buccaneers from 2002-2008 (57-55 with 3 division titles). His first Tampa Bay team won Super Bowl XXXVII by beating his previous year's team from Oakland.

            Lions officially fire Jim Caldwell.

Odds on favorites are Josh McDaniel or Matt Patricia from NE.

It was time. This last year was just terrible.

I have to wonder if this wasn't the plan from the end of last season. Who drafts a second pick overall without letting their coach know who it is?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jon Gruden's new deal with the Raiders is worth "about $100 million" over 10 seasons.
Reports last week suggested he would get an ownership stake in the team but Gruden has since refuted that claim. Either way, he's about to become the highest-paid coach in NFL history. Greg Olson (the coach, not the tight end), Paul Guenther and Rich Bisaccia are all expected to join Gruden's staff. His introductory press conference is scheduled for Tuesday. (source:Rotoworld)

Chiefs OC Matt Nagy named the new HC for the Bears, and it's expected that Patriots DC Matt Patricia will become the next HC for the Lions.
