    Apodaca once was the hilarious answer to "what Mets pitcher of those who never pitched for another team has the most lifetime WAR?"

    Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Darling, Leiter, Fernandez, Matlack, Cone/Franco, Benitez, Orosco, McDowell, McGraw, K-Rod - all not eligible.

    so Bob's 5.5 was the winner, until deGrom came along and racked up 33.3 in a hurry. still, he has Jacob has to retire as a Met to claim his prize.

        • I think Claudell Washington was on my first ever roto-team.
          It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

              Beckert and Don Kessinger were a fun duo to watch on defense--so in tune with each other because they played together for so long. Plus for MIs of their era, they were both good hitters.

              A classic story involving Beckert--

              1965 at Wrigley. Beckert leads off the bottom of the first against Sandy Koufax and strikes out. On his way back to the dugout, he tells Kessinger, who was on deck, "He's got nothin'."

              Koufax went on to throw a perfect game. "Nothin'", indeed.

                • Adrian Devine, a pitcher for the Braves & Rangers from 1973-1980, died at age 68. RIP.




                  Tyson Brummett, a pitcher who made a single MLB appearance for the Phillies in 2012, died in a plane crash yesterday at age 35. RIP.

                  • Bob "Ice Station" Sebra, who pitched for the Expos, Rangers, Phillies, Reds & Brewers in a 6-year MLB career spanning from 1985-1990, died at age 58. RIP.






                    Tony Taylor, a solid MI who had a 19-year career, batting .261 with 75 career HRs, died at age 84. RIP.
