I've always been amazed at how linemakers make their lines. how do they do it? combination of talent on the teams + schedule + history.

Wild speculation...could fanduel/draftkings be using customer account balances to fund ad spending, counting on more deposits than withdrawals?

they may be back in that game by early next year

re linesmakers NFL odds - you could find 100+ low-level players in Vegas on a Sunday morning who could give you a very accurate estimate of lines 2 weeks away.

nowadays, the casinos make money on the margins - they lure 65 pct of the money against their side in key games, and profit that way...

ok I found another one. dec 20 ATL will be 3 consecutive weeks on the road at the jags. I think the line will be -/+ 6.5

I would stay away from that game. yes the jags are playing a team 3 weeks on the road, and yes they are a home underdog and yes it's not a divisional game. and I think atl will come down to earth a little by then. clearly the coaching change has seemed to help tho. but JAC is a bad team still. and you shouldn't bet on bad teams.

this is just for fun and guessing purposes. im showing you the method of how to look ahead for the best types of games to bet on. and there's only one method, 3 consecutive road games. but you have to guess the spread, so then you can decide if it's of value to you.

And the swirling sound you hear is DFS circling the drain. At this point you now have the FBI and the Department of Justice getting involved on a federal level, and in what might actually be the death knell, the Nevada Gaming Control Board has ruled that DFS is a form of gambling, and as such must now be licensed in Nevada, and only casinos may offer DFS games.

A.G. Burnett, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, said all unlicensed daily fantasy activities must cease and desist as of Thursday. Operators could be invited to apply for a gaming license. Those who do not comply could face felony fines and 10 years in prison.

"We are saying that daily fantasy sports are a gambling game under the statutory definition," Burnett told ESPN on Thursday night. "We're also saying that these are sports pools, which is when someone is in the business of accepting wagers on sporting events through any system or method of wagering. We have found that it is a wager, and obviously, it's on a sporting event, and DFS companies are in the business of accepting those wagers."

FanDuel, one of the two most prominent daily fantasy operators, said in a statement released Thursday night that it is "terribly disappointed that the Nevada Gaming Control Board has decided that only incumbent Nevada casinos may offer fantasy sports."

"This decision stymies innovation and ignores the fact that fantasy sports is a skill-based entertainment product loved and played by millions of sports fans," Justin Sacco, director of communications for FanDuel, said in the release. "This decision deprives these fans of a product that has been embraced broadly by the sports community, including professional sports teams, leagues and media partners.

"We are examining all options and will exhaust all efforts to bring the fun, challenge and excitement of fantasy sports back to our Nevada fans. In the interim, because we are committed to ensuring we are compliant in all jurisdictions, regrettably, we are forced to cease operations in Nevada."

A spokesperson for DraftKings, another leading daily fantasy site, said, "We understand that the gaming industry is important to Nevada, and, for that reason, they are taking this exclusionary approach against the increasingly popular fantasy sports industry. We strongly disagree with this decision and will work diligently to ensure Nevadans have the right to participate in what we strongly believe is legal entertainment that millions of Americans enjoy."

trivia, the DraftKings flak Sacco is the one who lost her PR job last year tweeting about "will I get AIDS from this trip to Africa, no because I'm white!" and smelly Germans on planes. tried too hard to be edgy, to say the least....

I have to admit, this is not looking good for DFS. And it's all coming real quick. Too bad, I just started playing again. The whole shebang is going to crumble all due to one sloppy (and possibly greedy) employee.


And now there's another suit filed in Florida alleging that "scripting" gave some players an unfair advantage, and it names some top players as defendants, including DFS employees (most notably the guy who started this whole backlash). That makes 8 class action suits filed, according to a FL gaming lawyer on Twitter.

I disagree with this pretty strongly. Both companies admit that they in no way prevented or discouraged their employees from playing on the rival site. The one who got caught/outed wasn't the exception he was the rule. They CLAIM he didn't use the insider information (seems impossible if not unlikely) and we're expected to believe that none of the others who did play on the rival site used information from their site? That would be a foolish bite to swallow. It basically amounts to regular Joes playing against sharks who had more information than they did. For the regular Joes they likely assumed there were sharks with more knowledge of the ins and outs of players, gameplans, situations, etc. but not ownership percentages and the like. That is a level beyond and a wholly unfair situation for the average player.

I think you missed my point. I don't believe there was just one employee who played, lol. But this one, Ethan Haskell, was the one who got caught by the public with his hand in the cookie jar and caused the whole outrage. If he hadn't published the lineup info 90 minutes too early, there would have been no one aware that this info wasn't sealed until after the games locked. And compounding it was the fact he won $350K just the week before, suddenly linking access to info with major scores. Haskell and the sites can claim all they want that he didn't use the info to craft his lineups, but it really doesn't matter -- public perception thinks he did. And his trail of successful major scores, one after the next, makes it kind of hard to deny.

If this guy doesn't drop the info too soon, DFS would continue as normal, with some legal hounds sniffing about as they always have. But suddenly the Haskell scandal made it not just "legal gambling" but fraud, and now states are lining up to ban it.
