Assuming this is going to be a general travel thread cause I don't want to hijack your thread...

Anyone have any tips for the Caymans? Going there next month...

I will be down in Rhoboth Beach for the first time in July. I would love to hear any experiences.

Yeah, bring big wads of cash ... I was there for a day & remember paying something like $20US for 2 ice cream bars from a corner store.

        Gorgeous beaches tho.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I was there last summer for a week. It's a good beach. The waves can get surprisingly strong, so watch yourself. Basically gay people and families are the two groups down there. Cheap boardwalk games. Decent restaurants, can't really remember the names of some of them right now. Will have to ask my fiance later. Do remember a lot of ice cream choices. Renting a bike and riding it up and down the boardwalk is a good idea. If you want to gamble, there's a casino like 40 minutes away.

I've got a wild travel weekend next week. On Thursday night we are taking an overnight train from Beijing to Xi'an to see the Terra Cotta Warriors then on Friday night we take an overnight train back to Beijing then back home to Tianjin. Xi'an has been one of my must-sees so I'm really looking forward to it despite spending so much times on trains.

But the big trip is coming back to America this summer. I cannot wait!

Spent the last 6 summers at One Virginia Avenue with the family. Here are some highlights and places of interest. Keep in mind I have 4 young kids, so I miss out on some of the nicer higher class restaurants along Rehoboth Ave.

Grottos Pizza is a must (very good boardwalk pizza). Jakes's resturant soft shell crab sandwich are a good lunch. Kohers ice cream. Thrashers fries are great. The park at the front end of Rehoboth Ave has a nice farmers market on Tuesday's (home ice cream, rice pudding guy and local produce, breads are worth the walk). Dogfishhead restaurant is decent, but grab at least a case of 60 minute ipa. Summer house is a good place to eat. Penny Lane has a great crepe place that opens at 7, usually a line in the morning worth the walk in the morning.

Take a ride down to Ocean City Md for a night on that boardwalk too. If you can get a night out go to Secrets. I am sure it is nice during the day too.

Well, it's changed a little since you left. First of all, we managed to get all the churches shut down. Plus abortions are now mandatory, even for males. And we no longer swear on the Bible when you testify -- that's right, you put your hand on The Origin of the Species!

very cool - I loved Xi'an, though it was crazy hot (it was July); in addition to the terra cotta warriors which indeed is a must see the muslim quarter has some great food & a neat market; we also rented bikes & rode on top of the walls surrounding the city.

Xi'an was great. But, I must admit that the Terra Cotta Warriors aren't that much more impressive than what you see on TV. It was cool to see in person though. The part that we liked the most was seeing where people live in caves. We actually got to go inside one cave house and see how they live and they even had a meal waiting for us when we walked out. Very nice people! We also went to Muslim section of town which was very pretty. If you have facebook, I have posted pictures of the trip.

It looks like next on the travel agenda is the Summer Palace in Beijing which I have not been to yet. No trains for this trip. We might just take a bus up there.

Any veteran Italian tavelers? My wife and I will be going over for about two weeks in June. I've spent a lot of time in Piedmont and Tuscany, but we'll be three days in Rome (only briefly stopped) and three days in the Venice region. I'm looking for Rome and Venice suggestions from anyone who's been over there before.

Spent 4 days in Venice & 4 days in Rome this past July. If there's anything specific let me know but here are a few random thoughts about Venice:

Both cities are brilliant walking cities ... obviously Venice is with no cars, but Rome really is a walking museum.
Gondola rides are the stereotypical tourist thing, but it's a must do - esp. the ones that go through the old smaller canals.
We found out on the last day we were there about traghettos- basically a gondola that goes back & forth across the grand canal at various points ... everyone gets in & stays standing while you go across; for the equivalent of 50 cents; can save a lot of walking to the next bridge.
San Marco square in the evening when the bands come out is very expensive, but a fabulous experience.

I'll throw a few more suggestions as they come to me over the next few days.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.
