  • Spangenburg has been more than adequate in LF, offensively and defensively. I don't see him losing the job to the likes of Szuzr.

My question is, then why would they even trade for him?

I think calling Spangenberg "offensively adequate" for a left fielder is hyperbole on a good day, and absurdity on every other day. Your point is made, however. Even the meager offense Spangenberg puts out there, its still better than what Szczer could offer.

        • I always appreciate another Padre fan in this desolate Friar Friendly landscape.

However, I really try not to pull this shitout of my ass.

I believe that Szczur will start because:

Preller has show this season's W-L record means nothing when among other things, he kept 3 rule 5 guys (I'd said he would but met opposition from other Padre fanboard experts) whose only job is to show him what they have over a season.

He's shown he'll screw Spang over to find out what guys like Aybar, Sardinas and Cordoba have to offer. Not because Spang sucks but because he knows what he has in him.

He's specifically said--he thinks this guy will excel with opportunity.

He not only traded a guy who used to be a guy for him, he exposed another guy by making room for him on the 40.

Szczur is much better than Spang in the OF defensively and right now they're looking for that 4th 5th OF type which typically--is a defensive specialist.

The Padres have 2 games vs the Rangers and 3 vs the Sox. I'd be surprised if Matt didn't start 4 of the 5.

You might be correct in that Spang is the better player (marginally) but this season isn't about winning for the Padres, it's about finding what players can do--in that respect--Szczur will start.

I know you follow the Pads, as do I, but I just don't see Szuzr jumping Spangenburg. The latter has been hitting in the two hole and has been productive. Now Renfroe...

            • I am assuming Dickerson gets a fulltime role when he gets back, since Renfroe and Janko have both sucked. Am I right?
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

I assume nothing when the Padres are involved. They have stuck to their guns when it comes to Renfroe and Margot so I would think Dickerson will take his place in the OF with those three once he's back.

Capps isn't going to be in the bigs anytime soon having been sent from AAA to AA and removed from live games only throwing BP sessions for now.

Szczur should see a lot of action in the OF this weekend as the Pads are playing AL teams allowing Green to keep Spang in the lineup as a DH or probably in the IF as that allows them to rest guys like Myers and Solarte by having them DH.

Be on the lookout for Weaver to be released should his start on Saturday suck. A quick glance around the organization makes me think that should Weaver go, they SHOULD call up Lamet, but he's not on the 40 and Cosart is about to be activated so........Jarred will most likely be replacing Jered.............

                • GITH do you see Renfroe losing PT or the Padres riding him out for now?

Right now they really have no other choice, that could change if he's still struggling when jank and Dickerson get healthy.

                    • I really enjoy watching Yangervis Solarte play and how much he plays with an obvious love of the game. After what he went through last year (with his wife passing) I hope he had a long and fruitful career.

I think they stick with Renfroe through thick and thin this year. He'll be streaky as heck (hoping a hot one come soon) but he proved what he can do last year when he's hot.

And he has started taking more walks over the last week or so. I think his leash is pretty long.

                          • My next question is for Cordoba. With Aybar & Sardinas as the competition how is he viewed here? His BA for rookie ball is real good and showed SB potential. I've been offered a trade for him.

Not at the expense of Reed.

Understood but I really don't know enough about Cordoba. Part of running our teams is to be informed as much as possible. Since I'm not the All-Knowing I have to ask questions from time to time.
