  • 2K19: Mac Williamson

What do you know about this 27 year old large outfielder for SF?

He is available for FAAB tonight in my NL only 5x5. I have a spot. Just trying to figure out what to spend.

Swing change guy, still in a tough park, but the Giants' other OF options aren't exactly Mike Trout. I like him a good bit as someone who can get regular PT and do something with it.

He has value, but likely fleeting. He does have prodigious power, but there are holes in his swing. Big ones. Too much play will see him exposed and I'm not sure he's young enough or possesses enough upside to let him have the time to adjust. If you can get him and ride the wave, he could help you. But don't invest too much or be afraid to cut him when the time comes.

Mac worked with Justin Turner's swing coach

        Turner OPS+s: 94, 97, 100, 155, 139, 121, 149

the big jump for Turner came at age 29

Probably better at this point in time than Pence. He may end of with a lot of PT. I picked him up in an NL 10 team keeper league with $100 FAAB for $8. I dropped Pence in that transaction.

A nabbed him on Monday in my NL only for $5. Super happy so far! And I dont think there's any way Pence doesnt get Wally Pipped as long as he keeps hitting bombs.

              scratched tonight with a stiffy.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

He went flying into the wall head/neck first after tripping over the idiotic Bullpen mound in foul territory in SF.

No surprise...but note he hit a HR last night after doing that

2019 UPDATE, thanks to his callup today! #gogethim

"After going deep three times on Monday night, Williamson now hitting .378/.459/.756 with nine home runs and 22 RBI in 98 plate appearances.

By comparison, Giants left fielders are hitting .162/.225/.223 on the year for an unthinkably bad .448 OPS. That’s actually worse than the pitchers for the Brewers (.560), Mets (.555) and Diamondbacks (.472)."

I'll play the devils advocate here. I think he profiles more as a 4th OFer and really only has value in a deep NL only league. I bet he does get some playing time like you suggested but he's almost 29 and he's never had success at the big league level.

The minor league numbers are boosted up by a .458 BABIP and a 45% HR/FB rate which are unsustainable, obviously.

Definitely add in a deep only league but I don't have my hopes up for mixed league value.

he had Bugs Bunny numbers to start last year also, then hit 3 HR in 5 games for the Giants before tripping over a stupid bullpen mound on the field in SF and having a concussion ruin a season.

Is a 28-year old who's was DFA'd and had four failed call-ups really someone to be excited about? I agree with Ken -- if you're in a deep NL-only, throw a bid on him, but otherwise pass.
