  • Early keeper help - 15 team 5x5 w/ OBP

Can keep 4 major, 2 minor. Might be going to 6 majors - just looked we are going to 6 majors and 3 minors. Makes my keeps easier lol since I don't have many to choose from.

What do you think about the following and why, please:

    Sal Perez C $4
    N. Madrigal 2B $1
    C. Seager SS $19
    K. Wong 2B $1
    J. Ramirez 3B $37
    J. Altuve 2B $29

    Cristian Javier P $1
Mike Soroka P $1 - might be $11, gotta check the rules
    Jordan Montgomery P $4
    Aaron Nola P $24
    Alec Mills P $4
    Jose Berrios P $25

Minors are Mike Witt and Kristian Robinson. Could drop either but likely won't. Not sure who's gonna be available but only top 30 are taken so still plenty o' talent around.

Definites for me are Madrigal $1, Nola $24, Ramirez $37, Seager $19.

After that, Sal Perez $4 is okay. Even with a low OBP, he should still be a top 5-8 producer at catcher. If you're a 2 catcher format, he's a definite.

Final spot, I'm not a big fan of the remaining options, but I lean towards Montgomery $4.
Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."

Sorry, you asked for reasoning so I'll add mine.

Ramirez $37 and Seager $19 both had MVP caliber seasons in 2020 after mediocre 2019 seasons, so their prices would surely go up at auction. Nola $24 is a bargain, and he improved on 2019 as well. These 3 all seem like they're $5-$10 under auction pricing after strong seasons.

Madrigal is a no brainer at $1.

Montgomery $4 is the lowest risk with highest ceiling from your young SP options, aside from Soroka, but I stay away from keeping injured arms in shallower formats.

I agree with Teenwolf on everyone except Soroka. If he’s a buck, he’s a slam dunk keep. He’s already 5-6 months after Achilles surgery; others like Wainwright, have come back in five months. At 11 he’s marginal.

Reasoning - At the rate the Indians are going, you know they’ll deal Ramirez to a contender. His numbers could be stupid good in a strong lineup. Madrigal gets you cheap steals, runs, and an acceptable OBP. Sal Perez gets you great counting stats for a catcher. I’m not as high on Nola as others, but at $24 in your league, that’s a good top SP price.

If you cut Seager, turn in your Dodger Card.

I agree that the obvious ones are Madrigal, Seager, Ramirez, and Nola. Perez is the one I'm really torn on...he'll give you power and RBI's obviously, but that OBP, man it's dreadful. Five years in a row under .300, and with a lot of AB's for a catcher...if it's a 2 catcher league, yes, if not, much head scratching and a probable no for me. I do like Soroka, especially if he's a buck, that's kind of a gimme...Achilles injuries' aren't a killer.

And do you mean Bobby Witt?

Oops, yeah, Mike Witt might be a tad old nowadays. It's Bobby, thanks.

And I think Soroka will be $11 and not $1 --- I'm thinking this puts him back in the "toss" pile rather than "keep" pile. And it's a 1 catcher league re: Perez. Mildly surprised about the lack of love for C. Javier - bad FIP but pretty good track record of minor league success.

I’d be inclined to see where Wong signs ahead of Javier, but I like either better than Soroka at 11. Though keeping Wong would lock down all your MI spots, I think...

Bobby Witt is also a tad old... this is his son Bobby Witt Jr. LOL

Christian Javier has had weirdly super pessimistic scouting reports. I haven't read anything identifying him as a sleeper, but I haven't looked into him since last spring. Those articles could be out there.

I have seen a few sources that like Montgomery, so for the extra $3, I'm sticking with him as my final keeper. Soroka at $11, with a year of keepability burned already, seems like a less valuable asset.
