  • 2/22/19: Kershaw shut down indefinitely

Buying Ryu, Maeda and Stripling stock.

Kershaw, 30, was given Thursday off, a day after throwing a bullpen session. The left-hander threw a live bullpen Monday and another standard bullpen session last week. Roberts said Kershaw “didn’t feel right” after the live bullpen session and again after Wednesday’s bullpen. Roberts described Kershaw’s problem as an “arm kind of thing.”

'indefinitely' - I suppose. but the first two paragraphs didn't quite live up to my expectations of the word (yet)......

"Shut down from throwing after two discouraging bullpen sessions this week, Clayton Kershaw is not ready to panic.

“Just taking a few days,” Kershaw said Friday. “I’m not going to be super specific right now, but I should be playing catch here in the next few days, and [I’ll] just kind of go from there. This is super early. I just want to make sure things are right.”

no need to cancel the funeral, but maybe wait a little bit

02.23: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw is encouraged by the way his body is responding
to rest. (Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reported the update. Kershaw is dealing with an undisclosed physical issue that prompted the Dodgers to shut him down after he didn't feel right during a live batting practice session on Wednesday. The team hopes he will be able to resume throwing in a few days. The ace missed time last year with biceps tendinitis and has dealt with recurring back problems in recent seasons. He went 9-5 with a 2.73 ERA in 26 starts last year.)

Kershaw is already in mid-season form with left shoulder soreness.

No doubt this will suppress his price, which I don't want. My league has long overpaid for Kershaw, hoping to catch a come back to his glory days. I think this is the year his auction price finally falls significantly--as it should. That scares me, because I had him in those glory days, and at some price, against my better judgment, I will bid, and maybe land him this year.

149 to 175 IP the past 3 years, was worth $35 and $36 anyway in 2016-17, then dropped to a mere $21 last year.

Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw “didn’t feel great” about throwing today. Throwing program back on hold.

Shoulder injuries are scary. This could still be nothing much, but the red danger light is getting close to flashing.

I was offered Kershaw for my Vlad Guerrero in a dynasty no contract league and I turned it down. I didn't even hesitate. I remember kicking myself a few years ago when I turned down an offer of Kershaw+ for Matt 'freaking' Weiters before Kershaw was a thing. Now that he's reaped the rewards of having Kershaw and now knows it's time to move on, he comes calling for Vlad. I sure as hell wasn't going to make another mistake regarding Kershaw in trade talks.

I don't think there is a pitcher in baseball I'd take for Vlad in a dynasty.

In Dynasty leagues there is no reason to trade Vlad before the season starts. After the season starts there is no reason to trade Vlad unless it assures you of winning this year.

In reality there is no reason to trade Vlad in any dynasty no contract league....period.

time for me to have a man-to-man chat with the dean of my pitching staff: "Um, Clayton, it's not personal, it's business. We see no reason to continue you to take up a locker here. We're sending you to the big FA camp down the road, and our scouts will still see you. If the price is right at my March 30 auction - I'm saying there's a chance, kid."

03.04: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged Monday that Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) might not have enough time to get ready for the season. (It's not a big surprise at this point, but it's the first time that Roberts or anyone from the Dodgers has said as much. Kershaw is making progress and the Dodgers are confident he's moving past his shoulder issue, but there's no need to rush things, especially since the club has some respectable alternatives to fill in.)
