  • I just can't pay THESE fees for a league...

I went to look at the nbfc site, thinking I might join an a.l. only league. However, for a 12 team league, they are charging OVER $4,000 to run it. And they charge a $75 event fee! And geez, if you can not afford to spend the $1,300 entry on your own, you have to pay an additional $50 for a co-captain (because, you know, it takes a lot of extra time and space to add that guys name into the system) ! Just one league. Wow. Have I missed something or are these the real costs?

Anyhow, I would like to join a a.l. only...redraft or keeper...nbfc style or traditional...with an entry fee...live or via internet.

Anyone got a spot or would consider starting up a league?

Link to exactly what you are looking at? They sell out nearly every league every year. I know the guys that run it personally and they're top notch folks. The customer satisfaction rate is very strong. I ran events for 2 years myself back in the F**ball days and enjoyed it immensely.

You could do a league for $125 that pays out $1000/$375/$125

          12 x $1,300 = $15,600

subtract the three listed prizes (7,400, 2,800, 1,500)

leaves $3,900 profit (minus what ever expenses they are going to claim...which can't be much)

Add in the cost of $75 event fee x 12 teams (another NINE HUNDRED dollars)

And if you need a co-captain, its $50 a head.

          wow.

So don't join that league? I mean that's obviously a custom high stakes league. They exist, but it's not the NFBC norm.

This league takes out $375 and is not live like the example above. Even at 8 hours to run the live vegas show, $4,000 is a LOT of money for the time.

This kind of reminds me of playing poker in a casino. I play 50/100, they want $20 an hour for rake. I play 10/20, they want $10 an hour for rake. The ONLY difference is the stakes so why the extra juice?

You know, its about the third or fourth time you have replied with a jackass remark or thought to something I have written in a thread. If you don't like what I write, move on to another thread.

And it isn't a 'custom' high stakes league. It's just a league that plays for more money.

If this is the third or fourth time I've replied with a jackass remark to one of your threads it could be as much a reflection of you as it is of me.

Honestly, I don't get the hostility. The league isn't something that fits what you're looking for. Move on to another. If that's jackassery then so be it.

And if the league plays for a different amount of money than a standard league then it is a custom league. Whether it's high stakes or not depends on your bank account, but to me that is pretty high dollar.

servers, staff, fees....I get it. The events aren't cheap because they hold them in big places in Vegas, Chicago, NY, etc.

System runs incredibly smooth - never had any issue in the years I've played it. It's a very small group that makes everything happen behind the scenes.

FWIW -- the events fee is waived for almost all (actually, I'm guessing all) of the participants since you're charged one event fee regardless of how many drafts you do and I don't believe anyone does just the AL or NL only. The payout is consistent with their other drafts -- 75%.

Hey, I agree with you, but Stephen's right - if you think they're charging too much, there's plenty of other leagues out there. I've looked at the NFBC, but agree that the fees aren't worth it and moved on.

OTOH, as a free-market believer, more power to them if they can fill all their leagues and collect those fees. Means they're filling a niche in the industry.
