  • RJ Highball Stat Format (PG Issue)

    Hi guys,

I waited to post this to ensure the top guys were all off the board and the draft was well under way. I am not bitter I didn't get an "elite" PG - quite happy with my teams start!

I think we need to look at our stat format.
The use of a/to really sways this league to be PG heavy / unbalanced.

    7 of first 11, PG - 64% of picks.
    12 of first 33, PG - 36% of picks.

There are 5 positions on the floor and our league heavily favours one of them.

I understand folks don't like negative stats, like TO. I don't either.

Using BasketballMonster projections, these are the first round values using some different stat formats (PG focus):

    1) No A/TO: 5 PG rd 1, 6 thru rd 2, 7 thru the top 33 picks (just shy of 20% - and 5 positions on the floor). A guy like Nash becomes the 40th ranked player - which is much more in line with reality than is 10th.

    2) Keep A/TO, add Total Rebs: 5 PG rd 1, 7 thru rd 2, 10 thru the first 33 picks.

    3) Keep A/TO, add Steals+Blocks: 6 PG rd 1, 9 thru 22 picks, 9 thru first 33 picks.

    4) Keep A/TO, add Tot Rebs and Steals + Blocks: 4 PG rd 1, 6 thru 22 picks, 8 thru 33 picks.

Options 3 and 4 don't seem quite right to me. Bogut becomes a 1st round pick.
Option 2 isn't bad but wing men get the shaft (most).
Option 1 seems best, to me.

Here are the top 33 guys, in that format:

    James, Lebron
    Howard, Dwight
    Durant, Kevin
    Love, Kevin
    Wade, Dwyane
    Curry, Stephen
    Rose, Derrick
    Paul, Chris
    Gasol, Pau
    Stoudemire, Amare
    Williams, Deron
    Westbrook, Russell
    Anthony, Carmelo
    Nowitzki, Dirk
    Aldridge, LaMarcus
    Randolph, Zach
    Lee, David
    Bynum, Andrew
    Bogut, Andrew
    Jefferson, Al
    Smith, Josh
    Noah, Joakim
    Horford, Al
    Griffin, Blake
    Ellis, Monta
    Martin, Kevin
    Bryant, Kobe
    Bosh, Chris
    Wall, John
    Granger, Danny
    Lopez, Brook
    Gay, Rudy
    Monroe, Greg

I'd like to open the discussion. So many PGs so early really seems like a flaw in our league. Get em and hoard em or risk losing. Hardly seems to take a lot of brain power and limits strategy IMO.

Any ROTO format that has Josh Howard #2 is suspect.

That being said, we do have two heavily PG oriented stats. I would prefer pure TOs to Ast/TO
