still treading water of late, but it would be far worse if not for this reminder. terrrible weather, busy at work, family stuff - perfect storm of weight gain but I am doing enough to break even, anyway. watch out if the weather improves!

Honestly, considering the holidays and the weather, breaking even is almost a victory. Don't get discourged! (Or as they would say in Mulsim nation-states, Salaam Alaykum!)

i think this is the third year in a row i've gotten a lingering cold during this thing. I'd like to get to the gym, but my head always hurts and i'm always sleepy. Plus I can't get rid of this cough.

Poo. Still at 206 this week.

JJ and heyelander, I feel your pain. I was lucky to have a few days out of town to kick off my weight loss, and I didn't get a cold in Jan. for the first time in years. Hang in there, you can always get back on track.

              Start: 216

              Last Week: 220

              Today: 218.5

So I'm down 1.5 from last week, but still up overall.

The good news is that I've kept going every 2nd day with squats and crunches. I do 6 sets of each, so the entire routine takes about an hour, during which I watch a movie. Squats in particular can get pretty grueling by the end of it, but I'm still slowly increasing the reps. Squats have gone 136-142-148, while crunches are easier and I'm still ramping them up quite a bit, 195-206-218.

I don't just want to be thin, as I know that work should take care of that soon enough. I want to be in shape. If I can keep doing the squats and crunches throughout the year while working, I should make some great progress by the end of the year. Trying for the "marathon, not a sprint" approach.

Also, 36 days without a drink. Only had one outing in which I would have killed for a drink this week. I was at a salon opening with incredibly hot hairdressers. Telling myself it's better in the long run to lose the beer gut/man-breasts than to go the easy route and grab a drink.
Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."

Slow and steady definitely wins the race. I guarantee when you lose another 5-6 lbs. people will start to notice. I was shocked when I had lost 10 lbs. and people started to notice. Just keep doing what you're doing. Gotta remember that losing weight takes time. Your body doesn't like what you're doing to it, but at some point it will say, "Okay, I'm on board!"

i have epiphanies like that all the time. for example i was watching a basketball game today and realized pom poms are like a pair of tits. there's 2 of them. they're round. they shake. women play with them. thus instead of having two, cheerleaders have four boobs.

Not many complements on the weight loss yet, but I am enjoying wearing pants that I couldn't wear in December. I have noticed the loss around my midsection in the mirror and that was very rewarding.

                      nice work, guys!

I have found it amazing how "fair" the scale is - not always week to week, but over time. Amount of calories consumed vs amount of calories expended. Do it right, and you get a payoff.

got a whole Rotisserie chicken for dinner tonight. off the "contest," I can tear through those like a hyena who hasn't eaten in 3 days.
but tonight, I just ate until I wasn't hungry anymore, which was pretty quick. Had no more than one-third of it. Will pack some for a "free" lunch tomorrow, might have enugh left for a "free" entree tomorrow night as well.

My ever reminder: DRINK MORE WATER!

Easiest, best tip anyone can offer. I bring 4-5 bottles to work every day. The fluid is good for your "gears," and it makes you less likely to be hungry.

Things to get only in small sizes, not in "bulk" - no $1.79 bags of grocery store potato chips and no "let's order a pizza." For chip cravings, get a vending machine bag. For pizza, just walk in somewhere and order 1 or 2 slices for lunch (ideally 1), and 2 or 3 for dinner (ideally 2).

Don't look for a "good" parking spot in a mall or grocery store parking lot - find a "crappy" spot and walk.

Stairs are your friend, elevators not as much.

                        253/241/230

Held steady this week, but after the week I had (lots of sedentary work time sitting in front of the computer, both at the office and at home) I'm glad just to not have a gain

                        Jan. 3 - 253
                        Jan. 10 - 247
                        Jan. 17 - 245
                        Jan. 24 - 244
                        Jan. 31 - 241
                        Feb. 7 - 241

                        GOAL: 230

ridiculous numbers tonight on Biggest Loser (and if you can watch these and it doesn't get dusty in the room, you are made of stone).

A 46-year-old guy lost 11 lbs, allowing him to be the quickest ever to lose 100 lbs. from 440 to 340. It took him a total of - 6 weeks.

One woman in the low 200s lost 16 lbs this week, 6 pct of her total weight. in one week!

                          A 49-year-old woman lost 9 lbs this week, from 210 to 201.

another woman in her 40s went from 200 last week to 187 this week.

engrossing show, but a DVR-must. you can watch "2 hours" in about a buck 25 with FFing.
