  • RIP Armon Gilliam

Heart attack playing a pick up game, at age 47. I always liked Hammer's game.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

I was shocked when I heard this news this morning. Just days after Lorenzo Charles' passing. Sad week for 1980s NCAA basketball.

I remember meeting him as a kid at my schools local basketball camp. My HS head coach played with him and he came to our camp to talk a bit. I was only in like 4th grade but I still remember him coming in and talking to us. Sad news for sure.

Yes, I enjoyed seeing him play regularly when he was with the Nets. Sad to see him die so young.

Gilliam was the most "grown up" NBA player I ever covered.

            Intelligent, sensitive, classy.

Amazing that Hammer is gone and longtime Nets lockermate Jayson Williams is still around. Quite the Odd Couple, but they liked each other anyway.
