  • Kerry Collins retires

16 years is a long time. Enjoy a cocktail, Kerry.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

He had a great career, probably far better than anyone could have expected. Bon Voyage!

Greta may be stretching it be he did have at least a very good career. Retires as the 11th all-time passer ahead of such players as Jim Kelly, Johnny Unitas and Steve Young. He retires 29th in career TDs ahead of Phil Simms, Bob Griese, Joe Namath and Troy Aikman.

Nobody is saying he's a Hall-of-Famer but let's not act as though he didn't do some things.

205 TDs and 195 INTs. He was mediocre with a few good years sprinkled in.

All of whom played on run-first teams, and in run-first eras.

True, but 11th in front of Steve Young is quite an achievement. I'd agree that he's not HOF material, but 16 years and 40,000+ yards with many teams with bad receiving corps is a heck of a career.

Even while battling the bottle, he was extremely active in charitable activities, some publicized and some not. I know for a fact during his Carolina years he'd randomly show up at hospitals and give away stuffed animals and autographed footballs to kids.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Collins did a ton of charity work with NYC firehouses after 9-11, too. A Giants staffer says he did more than any other player in that time..

Makes him a great guy. Still not a very good qb. He was a compiler. Never even a top 5 qb in a particular season.

I'd rather be a great guy than a great QB.
