  • World Darts Championships 2018-19

The biggest dart tournament started yesterday at the Alexandra Palace. Interesting story lines coming into this one. The current world champion Rob Cross has had a rough season and is getting back into form. Peter Wright world #2 had health issues at the beginning of the year and continues to change his darts on a weekly basis. Michael Van Gerwen has shown to be human as the world #1. Raymond VanBarneveld has announced his retirement coming after next year.

Some of the young guns have plans to upset and gain the biggest title.

Only on the second day, with final on New Years Day and there have been some great matches already.

The BBC is carrying it live stream which is outstanding also.

It's funny that it's on the BBC on there. Here Sky own the rights to the PDC, and the BBC shows the BDO World championships after Xmas.

Peter Wright out gets upset in his first round match last night. Biggest upset so far in the tournament.

You can keep me updated .... I'll start watching (maybe the odd wager) from the Quarters.

Van Barneveld out after playing poorly.

Darren Webster loses to Vincent Van der Voort. Funny looking match! Darren Webster is maybe 5' 5" and Van der Voort is about 6' 4" - Webster had to jump to look him in the eyes. Webster was the seeded player and just had nothing going at all in the match. Losing 3-0

Fantastic action in this tournament so far. 6 of the top 16 players have been upset so far. Its really been quite exciting to watch - and the upsets have been amazing. Some guys lifting their games way above what they have been doing in the past.

When it comes to sports names, only a professional baseball player could be named Oil Can Boyd. Only a professional football player could be named Dick Butkus.

Only a professional dart player could be named Vincent Van der Voort.

Sounds like a Dr. Seuss character...

The extra ballast prevents them from toppling over.

Extra weight stabalizes the shot and there's no need for athleticism in the sport at all.
That and it's played in bars.

No wonder its popular for large men.

For some reason, it amuses me to hear "real sports" vernacular applied to activities whose participants are largely fat old bar slobs.

And Gerwyn Price - former Rugby player (and actually in really good shape) - is OUT!!! Another in the top 16 sent packing.

Interesting that many of these upsets have happened after being up 2 sets to 0 and losing 3 to 2.

Great tournament action - fun to watch!

His center of gravity was too high.
