Following the Democratic thread, I'm curious to see what the non Democrats on this board see as the future path for the GOP. They control the House, Senate, Presidency, and many statehouses around the country...can they keep control? And are you happy with the current direction of the party?

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone? ...the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered? ...raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. 'Voodoo' economics."Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

Awesome. Best political posts ever on RJ.Bob- I'm not exactly sure it would ROCK as you say it Byron.. it may be cool, by typical text book descriptions. Your opinion of this is shallow and poorly constructed, but allow me to re-craft your initial thought into something tangable.

2. Not a Republican, but I don't like the direction at all. I used to be able to count on Democrats not to want to be so hawkish and Republicans not to be so fiscally imprudent. More and more those ships have sailed. I think it really started with Medicare Part D where the GOP started giving away stuff and not worrying about debts and deficits. They've always been too rigid on social issues and that continues as does there strong desire to blow stuff up in the Middle East. One of the absolute saddest things about the Trump Administration was starting his Starting more ME hijinks just 10 days or so into office. They still favor the wealthiest folks over the rest of us. With all the success they've had over the past 3 cycles, I doubt they are too introspective right now, but they're time for introspection is coming.

They will lose a lot in the House (maybe a majority) and some legislatures in 2018 but probably keep the Senate ( I think there are 44 GOP Senators not on the ballot in 2018). 2020 will be a bloodbath. So I'm not a Republican, but I have some thought on what they need to do:
- Just like the Democrats, they need to stop championing social issues. Most people want less intrusion in the lifestyle they want to live. Stop the idea of stopping same-sex marriage. Come to grips with and accept transgender people. The gender identity issue is a losing proposition for Republicans. Those that feel strongly about it will be dead in 10-15 years...move on.
- Focus on the economy. Really look at why "middle America" voted for Trump. Capitalize on winning the disenfranchised by understanding ho to creat jobs that replace the coal mine but pay relatively the same and don't need years of training and education.
I will state this, as I did in the Democrat thread, it's way too difficult to nail people down as a R or D anymore, people hold too much "diversity" in themselves to fully support either platform."Looks like I picked a bad day to give up sniffing glue.

i have epiphanies like that all the time. for example i was watching a basketball game today and realized pom poms are like a pair of tits. there's 2 of them. they're round. they shake. women play with them. thus instead of having two, cheerleaders have four boobs.

again, i don't know how serious they are about acting on it. it's probably just more evangelical pandering that they know will never come to pass.~ all in all is all we are ~
