My wife got a credit-Valerie Lynne Nelson ...assistant makeup artist

She took our 1974 Red Eldo convertible to be a background car. It is in a few shots.

I got tabbed to be a bowler and throw a background strike in a crucial moment. Then later on I was standing around waiting for my wife and the assistant director says you want to be in this bar scene? Sure why not. He says here is a fake beer and a cigarette. Stand there and look mean and whatever you do, do not laugh at any of the jokes. I am standing next to one of the main characters who is performing stand up on open mike night. I should be on camera almost as much as he is. I do not know if I made it past the cutting room floor.

A couple of weeks ago we were contacted to see if we could shoot some car footage in front of the Genesee Theater. So my wife and I drove the caddy around with about 20 other cars. I saw a still and you can see it is us. Supposedly they are going to show us standing in front of our cars when the credits are rolling.

We will see if it really comes out. Still it was a lot of fun.

He left for his freshman year at Harvard this morning. Been making movies since he was 12 and with that practice made a film about the theory of relativity to win a 250k scholarship in the Breakthrough prize. My wife and daughters are in that one. I guess that summer ritual is over, pain in the ass at the time, but gonna miss it.

I was in a documentary in 2010 that was produced by a guy who has two documentary Oscar nominations under his belt. Sad to say, this was not one of those!

the premiere was at the Ziegfeld, I think it's the biggest theater in Manhattan (1,000+ seats). for the first hour, my colleague and I appear sporadically in Penn and Teller fashion - but I was the one who doesn't talk and just nods a lot. fortunately, in the last half-hour I got plenty of speaking time. They shot about an hour of footage and of course only used a few minutes for the film. but there was one scene that I deadpanned where this producer was behind the camera doubled-over with laughter. I figured that had a shot to get in.

sure enough, that part finally comes on the big screen. it's a matter of timing, where you say something that seems bland, and then you slowly add another line. then another line, and so on. and if you nail it, the audience starts laughing at the second line, then gets louder and louder - laughing harder because I'm still in "Joe Friday in Dragnet" mode all the way through the scene. you could barely hear me talking by the end of it, because the audience was laughing that loud.

it was like that journeyman ballplayer who somehow gets one swing in September and homers off Kershaw - nobody can ever take that moment away.
