  • Stephen A. Smith almost makes sense, this time.

Mediaite shared Smith's statements in a recording from the symposium. Says Smith: "I dream that for one election, just one, every black person in America would vote Republican." Smith says his reasoning behind the statement is because "since 1964 black America hasn't given the Republican party more than 15% of it's vote. What that means is...black folks in America are telling one party we don't give a damn about you. They're telling the other party 'you got our vote' therefore you have labeled yourself disenfranchised because one party knows they got you under their thumb, the other party knows they'll never get you. Then nobody comes to address your interests."

That is some cart before the horse thinking. People go where they are welcomed. No one is surprised, for instance, that a tea party rally is 100% excluding black people, because the movement is essentially slapping a little sticker on your shirt saying for whites only on it. There is zero subtlety to it, and could not be more clear unless outside the tea party rally stood a hanging tree with a doll hanging in effigy.

Nope, Steven a Smith is still a dipshit.
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

No doubt.... but his point is somewhat valid, IMO..... just there might be better ways to get better results.

Exactly...it's not on the AA community to court Republicans but vice versa. If they want to put pressure on the Democrats, the right move isn't to shift right, but to shift left. SAS is a fucking douchebag and why anyone cares what he thinks is beyond me.

The best way to get results is to change your platform to fit the people you want to represent not to expect the people to acquiesce to your platform just to be included.

Why should anyone make choices contrary to their own or what they believe is the best interest simply to gain recognition from a group that hasn't shown any interest in your ideals. They simply want your support so that they might enact their agenda which to date, hasn't included your interests at all.

yes there might be better ways to get better results but walking yourself into the slaughterhouse so the butcher might like you some day isn't a choice chattel should make.

I think we can agree then, that neither of these sides will ever change enough to make a difference.

It's like the mantra from the book--the day the earth stood still--our species will only change when we find ourselves on the precipice of a catastrophic moment where working together as one becomes necessary for our survival.

and even then I don't know if I have faith in the possibility we can overcome our selfishness to do so.

And you're basing this on what exactly? Not looking for an emotional response--just something factual. You attended a rally...you read about it on-line...something factual to support the 'with a doll hanging in effigy'.

nots, no need to respond to me. Some things are so obvious as to either be accepted or not. But for fun, google tea party rally, spend a minute looking at images. Note anything? Read the signs being held, the make up of the crowd. Still not clear enough, fine, then as I said, no need to respond to me.

Yeah, so I googled 'tea party rally' and looked at the first dozen or so pictures. Lot of white people for sure. Didn't see a single sign with anything racist on it though. Probably read 50 signs and banners. Maybe the 51st was racist. Lot of 'IRS this' and 'socialism that' and 'liberal media blah, blah, blah'.
But hey, keep sticking to your rants.

So what you're inferring is that if something cannot be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it does not exist?

I was asked to Google 'tea party rally' and I would see racist signs the equivalent of hanging people in effigy. I didn't find that to be the case. Did you?

I mean, there are examples, but you have to google 'tea party rally racist' to find them. not sure if that means they're not characteristic of the rallies though.

Journalism is an integral part of the modern political process. Political journalists form the information picture, shape the domestic political and international agenda.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
