Somebody help me understand the Republican thinking here. With no substantive objection and committee approval, they have made her wait four months already without a vote. This is the longest ever for an AG nominee.

Question: Do they think this will make her more or less easier to get along with?

leahy blasted the committee for this; his comments were spot-on.

I think they do it because they view the Obama administration as the coming of socialism to America and the undoing of the American system. So anything they can do to frustrate his adminstration's ability to govern, they view as a defense of the American system and ultimately in the best interests of the country, even if it causes some short-term pain in governmental operation. It's the same reason they would even consider shutting down the whole government over budget disputes.

It's a deeply cynical take and loaded with animosity toward the majority of the country that elected Obama ("makers vs. takers", etc.), but I think that's what's driving it. Not sure if that's better or worse than pure spite.

this is stupid, but McConnell is replacing Harry Reid, one of the worst/most shameless Senate Majority leaders in history. McConnell will enjoy wallowing in the same mud pit, alas. this is what we're stuck with these days. yet too many people only get disgusted by one or the other.

(Edit: To be clear, I also think that Harry Reid was a pretty horrible Majority Leader. That has absolutely nothing to do with this issue, though.)
well, I'm afraid it does. the worst of a job a Speaker from the other party does, the more it encourages the new doofus to do stupid stuff, too. it's a death spiral. O'Connell would do stupid stuff even if Reid had been competent, but I think Reid's previous contempt for proper governing emboldens O'Connell to be even worse.

I agree that false equivalencies are something to be mindful of; this isn't that example, imo.
