  • Sy Berger - father of the modern baseball card - RIP

Longtime Topps Trading Cards employee Sy Berger died of natural causes Sunday at age 91. For 50 years he designed baseball cards and was the face of Topps to the MLB players that he signed to annual baseball card contracts in which they were paid in merchandise. His legacy will live on with all of the great baseball cards that he helped produce over the years. RIP Sy Berger.

Here's a great article about Sy Berger from 2010 where he talks about player contracts and the ill-fated surplus of 1952 Topps high number cards.

And another from earlier this year.

Been a while since I've heard the name Sy Berger, or thought much about baseball cards. Thanks for posting.
